Barbara D. Briddell

March 22, 1957 — March 18, 2019

Barbara Lockett Briddell was born March 22, 1957 to John Lee Lockett, Sr. and Bessie Mae (Harris) Lockett in Itta Bena, Mississippi.  The family moved to Springfield, Massachusetts and there Barbara completed her education.

Shortly after moving to Springfield, Mother Bessie joined the Macedonia COGIC.  Barbara served in the church under the leadership of the late Bishop Bryant Robinson, Sr.  She remained there until she married and moved to Worcester, MA.  While in Worcester, Barbara and her husband were members of Mt. Sinai COGIC and faithful to the leadership of Bishop Robert Webb. Upon her return to Springfield, Barbara placed her membership back at Macedonia where Bishop Bryant Robinson, Jr. was pastor.

Barbara loved cooking and people so it was no surprise that she would be employed as head cook at a local soul food restaurant.

Barbara had a “Psalmist Anointing”.  That anointing would lead her to spontaneously get lost in a song and begin to prophesize and exhort, an anointing that she nurtured daily in prayer and devotion, ready at any moment to spread The Good News.  Many churches called Barbara to minister in Worship at their services.  Sick or well she would go and never let her own physical ailments stop her from giving her all.

Barbara transitioned this life on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Baystate Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband Clifton Briddell; her parents John Lee Lockett Sr. and Bessie Mae (Harris) Lockett; four brothers: Albert L. Lockett, Joe T. (Carol), William N. Lockett and John Lee Lockett, Jr. (Edna) and one brother in law Jacob R. Fluker.

Barbara leaves to rejoice in the memories of her life a daughter in love Nicki Lopez (Israel); three brothers: Robert L. Lockett, Sr. (Dessie), Henry C. Lockett (Mary Lee) and James E. Lockett; one brother in love, Constance Cooley (Jaqueline); six sisters: Betty J. Lockett Fluker, Joanne Simmonds (Michael), Rosemary Lockett, Martha J. Lockett, Ramona Robinson (Thomas) and Dorothy Franklin;  four grandchildren in love, and those who shared the same birthday as she, whom she referred to as “special birthday twins”; Kristina S. Richardson, Sean Lockett, and Anthony Harris Jr. Barbara also leaves a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA has been entrusted with the arrangements.  Please visit www.nefcc.net
