MSGT(retired) Arthur F. Burgess, 77, of Springfield passed away suddenly on May 7, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center.
He leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Brenda (Borinetti) Burgess, a son David Burgess and his girlfriend Donna Bys of Longmeadow, a daughter Sarah Mastronardi of Brimfield along with a brother Richard Burgess of Sandisfield. He also leaves a brother- in- law, Bob Howes, and several nieces of Ipswich, England.
Arthur is predeceased by his mother and father.
He graduated from East Longmeadow High School where he was on the track and field team. After graduation he joined the Air Force. He served 4 years stationed at RFA Bentwaters Suffolk, England where he met his wife, Brenda. After proudly serving his country he returned to Springfield where he was employed at Pratt and Whitney before joining the Massachusetts Air National Guard. He worked at Barnes104th Fighter Wing first as an airplane mechanic, then in logistics. During his 35+ years of service with the 104th he was part of NATO Operation Allied Force in Aviano, Italy as air support. When he retired from the Massachusetts National Guard he had achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. Later he worked for the City of Springfield as a groundskeeper at Franconia Country Club.
Arthur enjoyed traveling to England and Europe with his family on several occasions. He was a fan of NASCAR, the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He played golf in his free time. In his later years he and his wife Brenda enjoyed traveling to Boothbay, Maine with their life-long friends, Jim and Maureen.
Arthur will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Family and friends are asked to gather on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 9:45 AM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA, processing to the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery for burial with full military honors at 11AM.
