AGAWAM-Arthur “Boppie” Blanchette, 95, passed away on May 28, 2011 at Heritage Hall in Agawam. He was born in Holyoke, MA on July 9, 1915. He was a proud and loyal American who served in World War II and was highly decorated. He was a recipient of the Silver Star, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star Medal. In his early years he was the owner and manager the Showboat at Hampton Ponds. Later in life he worked at Hamilton Standard in CT. before he retired. His passion was jogging, which he did daily and was an avid outdoorsman. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Natalie (Kowalski) Blanchette, in 2000 and his daughter, Diane McGuy. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Linda (Markewicz) Doiron, of Westfield; grandsons: Robert Markewicz, of Huntington, Brian Markewicz, (Mandy), of Chester, and Paul Markewicz, (Missy), of Russell; his granddaughter, Debra McGuy, of CT; his sister, Edna Delisle, of Chicopee; nine great grandchildren and extended family members and friends. People will think fondly of him remembering that he was a sun- worshipper whose mode of dress was shorts, year round, and he could often be seen snow blowing his driveway wearing his favorite shorts. “Boppie”, you were special and you will be deeply missed. There will be a graveside service with full military honors on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield. A reception will follow at the VFW on Rt. 20 in Russell, MA.
