SPRINGFIELD – Arlene J. LaPorte, 68, passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 21, 1945 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late Isiah Smith and Mary DeCaro. She was committed to her family. She was devoted to her children and absolutely loved and cherished her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren.
Arlene is predeceased by her husband Florencio LaPorte, her daughter Charlene A. LaPorte-Dodson and two brothers, Ronald Smith and Charles Smith.
She is survived by her son Florencio LaPorte; four daughters; Josiephine (John) Holmes, Mary Etta LaPorte, Lucinda LaPorte, and Valentina (Edvertis) Thadison. She is also survived by her siblings; Jeanmarie (Richard) Perra, Leroy (Marlene) Tyson, Tyrone (Carol) Tyson, Marie Usher, Henry Johnson, Vonceia Johnson, Alphonso (Carol) Smith, Randolph (Joan) Smith, Carl Smith, Michael Smith, Carolyn (Henry) Malloy and Jacqueline (David) Goodall. She also leaves 17 cherished grandchildren and 2 beloved great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the team of nurses, doctors, staff and Hospice at Baystate Medical Center for their dedicated and compassionate care. Through their efforts Arlene was allowed to come home and spend her last days surrounded by her loving family before departing to her final resting place in Heaven.A memorial service will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA followed by a service at 6:30 PM.
