SPRINGFIELD – Annie S. Mitchell, 65, passed away March 30, 2016. Born on February 13, 1951 in Evergreen, AL to Helen (Moye) Sims and the late Rev. W.J. Sims, she graduated from Alabama A&M University with a B.S. in physical education. She was employed as a teacher at the John F. Kennedy Middle School.
She was a dedicated member of the Sumner Chapter 5 Order of the Eastern Star and served as its chapter treasurer for many years. She was loving, giving, strong, motivating and funny – an all-around amazing person!
Predeceased by her son Kelly Rhelan Mitchell who died on July 8, 2014, she leaves her son Derrick Gentry-Mitchell and his father Bobby Gentry of Springfield; mother Helen Sims of AL and siblings Rev. W. J. Sims, II and his wife Louise of AL, Marvin Sims of West Springfield, Ethel Lee and her husband Wayman of Springfield and many friends.
The viewing will be on April 6, 2016 from 6-7:30 PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill Street, Springfield. An Order of the Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held on April 7, 2016 at Alden Baptist Church at 10 AM with service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Visit www.nefcc.net
