SPRINGFIELD - Andrew (Andy) D. Lucia, 69, departed this life on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Willimansett Center East in Chicopee, MA. He was born on May 15, 1941 in Altona, NY, the son of William Lucia and Rose D. (Carey) Lucia Sicard. He resided in the Holyoke-Springfield area from the age of 12.
Andy was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Eugene Lucia of Altona, NY, Lionel Lucia of Peru, NY, and Robert Lucia of Holyoke, MA.
A genealogy buff, Andy was a descendant of Jacques L’Huissier, the original ancestor who immigrated to Canada from France and Etienne Lussier who helped settle the Oregon Territory.
He was employed by the Mt. Tom Institute for Human Services, Providence Ministries for the Needy, the Springfield Daily News, and as a cosmetologist. Andy was also a U.S. and Chicopee Census worker, as well as a poll worker for the cities of Chicopee and Springfield. He was active in his community where he was known and loved by many.
Andy is survived by his life-partner of 25 years, Judith Kennedy (his “Bijou”); a son, Tim Lucia of NH; a son, Douglas Lucia of NE; a son, Dwayne Lucia of FL; a daughter, Tammy Webb of NH; a sister-in-law, Viola Lucia of Altona, NY; 3 special nieces and a nephew: Charlene, Meloney, Eunice, and Eugene, Jr., all of the Altona area, in addition to several grandnieces and nephews.
New England Funeral and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements. There are no calling hours. Services and a celebration of Andy’s life, with burial at Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona, NY will be at a later date.
