Allen T. Jones, Jr.

Springfield – Allen T. Jones, Jr. 69, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016. He was born in Vancouver, Washington on June 17, 1947, a son of the late Allen T. Jones Sr. and Mildred (Thomas) Jones. He proudly served in the U S Army during the Vietnam War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, and the Bronze Star Medal. Allen will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.He enjoyed fishing, camping and playing the saxophone and flute. He is survived by his wife Elena (Barnett) Jones, son Allen T. Jones III, daughter, Myesha May, stepdaughter, Ladeasha Barnett, two brothers; Richie Thomas and William Thomas, four sisters; Shirlee Richardson, Geraldine Wiley, Peggy Mitchell, and Denise Thomas. He will be sadly missed by six grandchildren; DeaLena Barnett, Gracious Barnett, Allen L. Jones, Alexandra Barnett, Allen T. Jones IV, and Gianna Jones and many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by three brothers; Teddy Jones, Lamont Jones, and Ola Thomas.Allen’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Doctor Armen Asik and the staff of the D’Amour Cancer Center for the care, comfort and compassion given to him during his illness.Memorial contributions may be directed to the D’Amour Cancer Center, 3550 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107.Committal services with military honors were held at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA 01108 assisted with the arrangements.
